Week in the park!

I the middle of May we had school at Nay Aug Park.
It was a great week!

The first days were a little cold but Thursday and Friday was super nice.

The students were doing different art projects with Michael, science lessons with Megan, and with Jeri and I they were using their math skills making kites.

And there was plenty of room for playing and running, and enjoying being outside.

Below are some pictures from the week.

Many of the kids brought binoculars. There's a lot of things to see when you're in the park. And not all of them are very close to you.

One day we were drawing portraits of our classmates. 

A lot of running, and playing tag during the week! We had so much fun.

Looking at plant fossils before going out to look for live plants.

We read a story about a kite maker, and then we made designs for our own kites.

Measuring and doing the math before constructing the kites.

Megan brought in some friends from the Compost!

Each student got to observe a worm and a slug.

And then they got to use their skills of making a Venn-diagram when comparing the two.

Since one theme of the week was recycling, we made mobiles with things we could find in the park.

There was a lot of walking around the park. Fortunately we only had one rainy day.

On Thursday Megan took us down to The Creek.

Fish nets were used. And you had to be really patient to catch anything.

Yes,

it's a crayfish, and a dragonfly larvae.

The kite designs made at the beginning of the week were transferred to big papers which we then put on the frames made earlier during the week.

Coloring on the ground gave the pictures a really cool texture.

The kites turned out really good.

Unfortunately there wasn't enough wind to keep them in the air for a longer time, so we haven't really tested their flying abilities yet. Instead we brought them back to school and there they have been on display in our classroom.
